So what exactly is a “Young Professional”? Boise Young Professionals (BYP) is designed to connect, empower and engage Boise’s 21-40 year-old population. “The intent of BYP is to focus on the individual needs of this demographic, increase our attraction and retention of a young talented workforce, and provide a much needed resource to the members of our community,” said Nancy Vannorsdel, President & CEO of the Chamber.
Not only will this new program target area YPs for attraction and retention purposes, but it will also be open to non-chamber member individuals from any profession. “BYP encourages people from all industries to get involved including local artists, engineers, non-profit workers, entrepreneurs, lawyers, bankers, and any other interested professionals,” said Ben Quintana, Programs Manager for the Chamber.
Members of the BYP Steering Committee have a conversation with newly elected Ada County Commissioner, Paul Woods during the Mayor Bieter "Unplugged" event.
The program is currently guided by a 16 member BYP Steering Committee, which is comprised of individuals from several areas of the community. Ben Quintana, Programs Manager for the Chamber, led this original group, which also acted as a formation team, while they shaped and designed the structure of BYP. The steering committee members were instrumental in developing this new program and provided a voice for the needs of YPs in the Boise Metro area.
Opportunities for sub-committee/work-team involvement is available with this program and BYP is looking for action-oriented YPs to join in their efforts. BYP will have its own separate membership of only $50 per year and will not require membership with a Chamber.
The Boise Metro Chamber and BYP would like to give a special thank you to our major program sponsors for the 2007 year: Adecco Technical, Washington Trust Bank, and Hewlett-Packard (HP).
