Join us for a BYP first – a political debate between two BYP members competing for the same seat in the Idaho Legislature. Brian Cronin and Kevin McGowan are running to be the House Representative for District 19B, which includes Boise’s North End, East End, Downtown, Harris Ranch, Warm Springs Mesa & the Foothills. Dan Popkey, an award winning political columnist for the Idaho Statesman, will moderate the debate. Kevin and Brian will answer questions asked by the audience.

Brian owns Cronin & Associates, a marketing/communications firm he founded in 2003. Clients include HP, Allied Waste, and the Kennedy Center. He and his wife Veronica started Garabatos Spanish Preschool in 2006. He is a former high school history teacher with a B.A. from Haverford College and an Ed.M. from Harvard University. His daughters, Kyra and Alana, are kindergartners at Roosevelt Elementary.
Brian serves on the boards of the Idaho Human Rights Education Center, Boise State Radio, and the Small Business Success Center. He has volunteered for the United Way Community Impact Review Team, ACHD Neighborhood Advisory Council, and Agency for New Americans. The Idaho Education Association, Conservation Voters for Idaho, Boise’s mayor and four City Councilors, and the Boise Firefighters have all endorsed his campaign.

Kevin is a broker with Thornton Oliver Keller Commercial Real Estate. Prior to joining Thornton Oliver Keller in 2004, Kevin worked for 9 years in the financial services and technology sectors. Kevin has immersed himself in a number of community activities which have prepared him for a legislative term, including serving now as president of the North End Neighborhood Association.
When elected, Kevin will focus his legislative term on enhancing Boise’s opportunities for prosperity. He will focus on initiatives aimed at stimulating technology job growth, improving Boise's transportation and transit infrastructure, supporting the arts community, and managing smart urban growth that is good for the environment and our quality of life.

Dan has been with The Idaho Statesman since 1984. He's been a columnist since 1994, but also worked as a police reporter, covered Boise City Hall, the Statehouse and politics. He's covered the Idaho Legislature since 1987. In 2007, Dan led the Statesman's coverage of the Sen. Larry Craig sex scandal, which was recognized as a Pulitzer Prize finalist. He was the inaugural winner of the Idaho Press Club's Reporter of the Year Award for 2007 and won the Tedd M. Natt 1st Amendment Award for his 2003 coverage of University Place. He has a bachelor's in political science from Santa Clara University and a master's in journalism from Columbia University. He has two children and lives in Boise.

“Lounging Series” events provide a question/answer forum, giving young professionals exposure to decision makers and community leaders. These events are held at a swanky, hip and trendy location in downtown Boise and provide a great atmosphere for networking with local young professionals and learning from influential leaders in the Boise metro region.

Sandra Bennett Bruce is the President and CEO of Saint Alphonsus, headquartered in Boise, Idaho. Saint Alphonsus is a 387-bed regional referral and trauma center and integrated delivery system serving approximately 500,000 people in Southwestern Idaho, Eastern Oregon, and Northern Nevada. Saint Alphonsus provides clinical management services to rural hospitals in Idaho through its Health Management Services division. Saint Alphonsus has created the largest primary care network in Idaho; is part of numerous physician joint ventures; operates a Management Services Only (MSO) for primary care physicians in Idaho; and is a member of Trinity Health, the third largest Catholic health care system in the nation, with corporate offices in Novi, Michigan.
Bruce is the former President and CEO of Mercy General Health Partners in Muskegon, Michigan, a combined Healthcare System formed through a Joint Operating Agreement between the Muskegon Mercy Community Health Care System and Muskegon General Hospital. Mercy General Health Partners is now a member of Trinity Health.
Bruce currently serves on the State of Idaho Governor's Health Quality Planning Commission. She is immediate past chair of the Board of Trustees of the Catholic Health Association of the United States. Bruce is a past chair of the Michigan Health and Hospital Association, and the Idaho Hospital Association. She is a past member of the American Hospital Association Region VIII and Region V Policy Boards. Ms. Bruce was one of five hospital CEO members of the American Hospital Association’s 25-member Commission on Workforce, and chaired the AHA Section for Aging and Long Term Care Services.
Bruce serves on the Board of Directors of Blue Cross of Idaho, and is a past chair of the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Boise Public School Education Foundation, where she spear-headed a series of successful fundraising drives. In 2007, she was named one of the nation's "Top 25 Innovators" by Health Imaging & IT Magazine, and received the Joyce Stein Memorial Award from Women's and Children's Alliance.
Bruce has held chief executive officer positions for more than twenty-five years, including her current eleven year tenure at Saint Alphonsus. She is a member of the American College of Health Care Executives, the American College of Health Care Administrators, and the American Society for Aging. She holds a Master’s of Science in Health Administration from the University of Notre Dame and a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University.

October 30 - BYP Halloween Bash

What: BYP Halloween Bash
When: Thursday, October 30th
Time: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Location: Downtown YMCA (10th and State)
Who: BYP will be hosting a Halloween themed event targeting kids from Boys and Girls Club, the YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boise Rescue Mission, and WCA.
More details: We are recruiting people to create/bring "carnival type" activities for the kids and we're also needing volunteers to "host" each of the activities. We are asking those people who are creating a game/activity to sign up prior to October 20th and all other volunteers to confirm by October 24th.
Dressing up in encouraged, but not required!
