You've got questions, we've got answers!
What is a “young professional”?
YPs are generally considered working adults between the ages of 21-40, but also include “young thinkers” of any age over 21.
What type of job do I have to have to be included?
YPs come in all shapes, sizes, nationalities, backgrounds, industries, and educational experience. Accountants, artists, bankers, engineers, non-profit workers, graduate students, small business owners and everyone in between is welcome in BYP.
Is this another networking, dating, or social club?
Absolutely not! BYP offers networking, fun, and social opportunites with other YPs, but that is not our focus. This is an organization designed to connect, empower, and engage our local YPs. Our goal is to make a significant difference in the development of our members and a positive impact in our community. At our events, YPs will have opportunities to meet other YPs and community leaders with the focus on building conncetions and relationships, not sales.
Do I have to be a Chamber member employee to join BYP?
No, but we encourage you and your company to help shape the business landscape of the Boise region by becoming members of the Chamber. Membership in BYP is separate from Chamber membership. BYP is a program of the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce and wants to support the growth and development of our area’s young talented workforce, but Chamber membership is NOT required.
How much is membership in BYP and how long will it last?
BYP has an annual membership of $50. The membership is based on anniversary dates, so if you join in October of 2006 your membership is good until October 2007.
How can I get involved in BYP?
Great question! BYP offers many volunteer and committee level involvement on a regular basis. At the moment, BYP has six sub-committees called “work teams.” These include: Professional & Leadership Development, Community & Civic Involvement, Arts & Culture, Social Opportunities, Marketing and Membership. You are able to join only one team at a time. To join one of these groups, please email us at getinvolved@boiseyp.org.
How did BYP get started?
The need for this program was discovered and acted upon by the staff of the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce. Soon after, two focus groups, comprised of 24 area young professionals, were created to answer questions about the needs of YPs. Finally, a 16-member steering committee was created to represent the voice of YPs in the Boise area and act as a formation team.
Do I have to live in Boise to join BYP?
No. BYP is a regionally focused group and accepts members from all surrounding communities in the Treasure Valley. So, whether you live in Boise, Nampa, Kuna, Caldwell, Mountain Home, Eagle, Garden City or any other community in the area, you are welcome at BYP.
How often will BYP meet?
BYP offers several monthly events to its members. With multiple work teams in action there are several events happening each month. Check out our monthly luncheons, visit a social activity, and stay tuned for upcoming professional & leadership development, community & civic involvement, and arts & culture activities! Want to get involved and make a difference? Join one of our work-teams!
