BYP creates programs and events designed for young professionals by young professionals. All programs, services and events are driven to accomplish the BYP focus areas to connect, empower and engage young talent.
b|wise Series – The b|wise Series was launched in June of 2007 to provide opportunities for BYP members to establish strong coaching/mentoring relationships with other young professionals and community leaders. This series pairs BYPers and established senior business leaders into ‘groups’.
Each group is comprised of up to 10 BYPers and 1 mentor/facilitator. This mentor/facilitator is always an accomplished individual at the top of their careers; has a title like CEO, President, etc.; and has employee development experience. Each group meets monthly for 3 months to explore a wide range of leadership/professional development topics. BYPers completing the series should be more familiar with their personal goals; professional goals; strengths; weaknesses; next steps to accomplishing professional objectives, etc.
b|balanced – When your work life and personal life are out of balance, your stress level can soar and your wellbeing is jeopardized. This program is designed to help young professionals achieve balance. Through hands-on activities, b|balanced will help improve your productivity, health, and happiness. This program is for BYP members only and runs monthly.
b|On Board – Looking to get involved? Curious what it takes to be part of a commission, committee or board? Join Boise Young Professionals’ b|On Board program. Now in its third year, this three-week training series is designed to inform Boise professionals about how to engage with organizations around the community.
□ Understand the differences between nonprofit, corporate, public and government boards and commissions
□ Learn valuable skills to have on boards and in volunteer opportunities
□ Enhance your public speaking skills
□ Network with Idaho organizations seeking volunteers and committee members
□ Over 40 YPs have been placed on boards in the community since b|On Board’s inception.
Event speakers include Boise thought leaders who have extensive experience serving on nonprofit, corporate and public boards and commissions. It will also include personal assessments and training designed to help participants develop skills that are useful for navigating the world of boards and commissions.
b|in business – Have you ever had an idea for a business? Are you interested in learning how to vet a business idea and turn it into a business plan? Are you interested in discussing your business idea and plan with successful local entrepreneurs
and experienced business professionals? This program will walk you through the idea vetting process, the creation or fine-tuning of a business plan, as well as get you in front of business experts and preeminent entrepreneurs with local and national success.
Speaker Series – The Unplugged Speaker Series (formerly Lounging Series) was launched in 2007 and provides a question/answer forum, giving BYPers up-close-and-personal exposure to decision makers and community leaders. The event is held quarterly. Each Unplugged event is held after work hours (about 6-8pm) in a smaller venue to promote a more relaxed and open environment. Some past speakers include: former Governor of Idaho Cecil Andrus; former CEO of Micron Steve Appleton; CEO of St. Alphonsus Sandra Bruce; former CEO of Washington Group Steve Hanks, and many more!
Monthly Luncheons – Networking, BYP updates and a featured guest speaker on issues of interest to young professionals in the Boise Metro area. $10 for members and $25 for non-members. Price increases $5 after the Friday before the event. First Wednesday of the month from 12:00 – 1:00 at the Chamber offices, lower level conference center.
BYP 101 – BYP offers a bi-monthly series to educate, connect and welcome new members. These events will take place at the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce offices. Each event will welcome new BYP members and provide time for networking, information about upcoming events, and an overview of the benefits of membership. These events will be offered at no cost to BYP members. Non-member guests are allowed entrance to one BYP 101 event per year.
b|involved – The Community Engagement Work Team meets monthly to determine volunteer service projects in the Boise region. Past events have included: BYP Halloween Bash, Rake Up Boise, Day of Service, Ironman, and several others.
b|connected – BYP offers a fun, purely social event with no agenda other than meeting other YPs. These events offer drink specials and free appetizers to BYP members and take place at a different location around the Boise downtown core every other month. Each b|connected will take place on the 3rd Thursday of every other month from 5:30 – 7 or 7:30 p.m. These events are free to BYP members and guests.
Scavenger Hunt – Join BYP in exploring your city! With a team of friends, follow clues to different destinations around Boise. This event takes place in the spring.
Annual Celebration – Held in the fall each year, the Annual Celebration marks the anniversary of BYP. The event celebrates the annual accomplishments of BYP and recognizes area young professionals and businesses who exemplify the vision of BYP.
Online Network Access: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and – BYP uses an opt-in version of popular social networking media to allow YPs to connect. BYP has a page on LinkedIn and Facebook, plus uses Twitter to send posts on new events and information geared toward YPs. These social networking tools are available for no cost to anyone interested in using them. Look up the BYP groups and join in!
Special event discounts to members –BYP members are occasionally offered special discounts to community events. These discounts are offered throughout the year and have included discounts to the Idaho Stampede, Idaho Shakespeare Festival, Boise Philharmonic, Opera Idaho, and many other great local arts/culture and sporting events.
Special Invitations and Discounts to Chamber Functions – BYP is a program of the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce. Because of this great partnership you will find special invitations to upcoming business events hosted by the Boise Chamber. Some events include special tables for BYP members, discounts for events and special invitations. BYP members are “in the know” about business critical information like the Economic Outlook Forum, the Mayor, Governor and Ada County Address, and many others.
